The Academy Awards should add a Voiceover Performance Category.
Voices.com hopes to achieve a measure of equality for voiceover actors who perform behind the scenes. The Oscars would benefit from including more performance oriented awards, specifically, awards related to voiceover performance. Outstanding voiceover performances breathe life into animated films and birth iconic character roles that are believable, lovable and real. Recognizing the art of voice acting by designating a voiceover performance category for voice actors at the Oscars could result in the fulfillment of many collective dreams.
Box office earnings for many animated feature films match if not exceed the earnings generated by traditional films starring on camera talent. Animated films also appeal to wider audiences and reach both the young and the young at heart. Pixar Animation Studios alone has made over $6.3 billion worldwide with four of their films being counted among 50 of the highest grossing films of all time.

We the undersigned believe that there should be a Voiceover Performance category added to the Academy Awards. Voiceover acting has contributed significantly to some of the highest grossing films of all time and has also given filmmakers more avenues to reach audiences, both young and old, through stories voiced by animated characters that can make people laugh, cry and personally identify.
This acknowledgment would recognize lead voice actors for their achievements and also draw attention to the wealth of talent who work behind the scenes to help make the imaginable doable. Voices.com believes that professional voice actors in film deserve recognition from the Academy and proposes that awards be added to recognize leading male and female voice actors in animated films.
Please consider this petition as a formal outreach from the voiceover community and voiceover actors, recommending that a Voiceover Performance category to be added to the Academy Awards.
