Education is the foundation for a better tomorrow and the fundamental key for a stronger america. By teaching our youth about not only the benefits of non-violence but also ways to handle situations in a non-violent and non-aggressive manner, violent crimes will not only start to decrease but will start to be a thing of the past.
Much of our youth is held victim of a hostile environment either in their home or their neighborhood. They are taught from young from a combination of parental and peer modeling as well as television and video games to react in destructive violent ways. While many of our homes and families are lucky enough to be stable and able to teach these wise teachings to our children most are not.
According to statistics there were 1.3 million violent crimes last year alone and over a million women were battered in cases of domestic violence. Children are usually almost always beaten in cases where there is domestic violence. This doesn't have to be 'their normal' and they can be taught that their are other ways of handling their problems. The only problem is their is no one to teach them these commonplace strategies we teach our children in healthy households. What better place to educate our children about the consequences of violence than in our school system.
We have seen that violence treatment programs such as DVIP (domestic violence intervention program) and Anger management have had tremendous results in curing the individuals who suffer from anger and hostility but we all know the best treatment is prevention.
Why wait until there is violent crimes that can utterly devastate and tear apart families, lose the lives of loved ones and intern create new violent crimes by modeling such behavior to our children when we can put an end to it now by teaching non-violence to all children in our school systems.
Please help create a better tomorrow and protect our children, protect our families and let our children grow up knowing that the world can be a very safe place.

We the undersigned would like to thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We have a grave concern we would like to address to you that can help insure a better tomorrow for not only 'our' children but the future of America as we know it.
