Omar Khadr is a Canadian citizen. When he was only 15, the American army took him from his family in Afghanistan and threw him in Guantanamo Bay. They charged him with throwing a grenade; an act that had no witnesses and no empirical evidence. In any other scenario, he'd be treated like a child soldier and repatriated immediately. Unfortunately, the racism in Canada and the United States paired with a complete failure of justice has led to Omar Khadr rotting in jail, and the people in power are doing nothing. We must call for his release; we must call for his recognition as a human being, deserving of compassion.
We the undersigned beg you to heed our call. Omar Khadr is a human being deserving of compassion, but also a Canadian citizen with the right to a real trial in his home country. It is in your power to give him justice and to give him hope. We implore you to fulfill your duty as a world leader and a representative of all Canadian peoples, and to fulfill your duty as a human being to relieve the innocent from suffering. Understand that with every passing moment our faith in you fades, and your actions now will determine how you are forever remembered; because we will never forget.
