Let's Observe June 11 as Reconciliation Day in Canada
In recognition of the historic apology made by Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of the Government of Canada, on June 11, 2008 to the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Peoples and all our survivors of the residential school system:
We, the Peoples of all Nations in Canada, respectfully petition our Government to permanently ensconce this historic day in Canadian history by making June 11 a national holiday, forever to be known as "Reconciliation Day". This day will reflect our commitment, as First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and Canadians of all Nations, to never forget the wrongs of the past, whilst in perpetuity remembering our commitment to each Other to forge a new relationship based on mutual understanding and respect.
