OPPOSE OBAMA'S SUPPORT OF THE WIRELESS TAP ACT AND THE PATRIOT ACT.

On Thursday, July 10th, 2008,  President Bush signed into law the "Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act".   This Act is an infringement on the American people's freedom as articulated in the Constitution and is a serious breach of the Constitution.  The law is an extension of the Patriot Act which is also a breach of the Constitution and a serious danger to American freedom and democracy. Under these laws any American citizen or foreign visitor can be arrested, can be held without representation or trial, can be wiretapped in their home and office without a warrant, and can be held in limbo for as long as the authorities deem useful to them.  "Authorities" are not defined and could be any legal representative from any legal jurisdiction who can make a decision to arrest people and treat them as described.  These laws turn our current law on its head: the American people, under these new laws, are considered guilty and must be proved innocent, if they are able to go to court with representation. Most of the time arrested individuals will not be able to do this.  There is little control or oversight of the actions of the police/agents under these programs and telecommunications companies who comply with the government order to provide information such as emails and chat-room transcripts, and to wiretap telephones, cellphones and computer systems, cannot be sued and will not be held liable under the law for their individual freedom and civil rights violations.Several other countries are now copying the United States and their citizens are planning to oppose the legislation: these countries include but are not exclusive to, Austria, Australia, Germany, the UK, and Ireland.  This whole process of undermining freedom and citizen's rights is, thus, a worldwide threat and must be opposed.  Frighteningly, the precursors to these laws are found in nazi Germany in legislation that lead to the Jewish murders, and in Apartheid South Africa (where the laws were called the 90-day Act, the 180-day Act, and the Terrorist Act.)  We cannot continue to be apathetic - we must act to stop this government erosion of our freedom.  If Obama votes for legislation which limits freedom and breaches the Constitution, how can any American vote for him - and I am not pro-McCain either! - sign this petition to demand the repeal of all Patriot Act and other freedom destruction laws.  We are the people and we demand our civil rights and our freedom as guaranteed under our Constitution.
