Sandy's Petition

I would like to start a petition to change regulations on the use of physical restraints on patients in healthcare facilties like hospitals and nursing homes. My Mom is Sandy and she had an accident in a hospital in 2006  where she was restrained  by a belt to a hospital bed to prevent her from getting up, but she did and her ability to breath was restricted by the belt that was meant to keep her safe and she respirtory arrested and remained hospitalized for 2 months. She recovered after 2 weeks on a ventilator and countless rounds with hospital staff to help rehabilitate her well enough to take home again. Sandy did come home to her family, but effects of the accident remained with her always. She suffered anoxic brain injury with many mental and physical problems to bear. Although she survived in 2006 her life never regained what she was entitled to, her health decline and she passed away of lung failure in March 2008. My goal is to make a change for her, she deserves it ! I believe other people can benefit from her story and preventing it from happening again is important to me.
