SAVE PERU'S AMAZONIA PARROTS
On Sat 22nd Feb 2008 my beloved Amazonia Farinosa parrot CuiCuiTa took ill w/heavy breathing disorders. Running from one expert avian vet to another, I found out to my horror that PERU does not have the reactives necessary to rule out PSITTACOSIS, which is very common in Psittacines. Avian vets can only carry out tests to r/o Aspergillus or other bacteria and if those result negative, then they ASSUME it is Psittacosis! My darling bird was wrongly medicated and she died in my arms on Sunday, 24th Feb, after 11 wonderful years with me. While investigating in those two days, I found out that our main zoos, both Parque de las Leyendas and Huachipa, have no way of really taking care of the many parrot families they carry! Peru is the land of birds but what irresponsibility of the Government that will not allow the main labs to import the reactives. My goal is to start a campaign that will make enough noise worldwide, enough to have them allow the import of these much needed lab material. Please sign my petition.
We the undersigned would like you to focus on the importance of saving the Rainforest Wildlife as a means of preserving our way of life. The birds of Peru are its richness and for this to grow we must be in a position to keep them healthy. This will in turn keep our citizens healthy as there are some parrot diseases that are contageous to human beings. Please reconsider your position on the importation of reactives to treat and rule out Psittacosis, one of the deadliest and recurring illnesses in Peruvian Amazonia Parrots.
Thank you,
