In Memory of Irene Peteigney (Michniuk)Global

In April 2004 Irene Peteigney Michniuk was beaten in the head by her husband as their two toddlers watched.  Irene was a childhood friend that I lost touch with over the years.  Recently I found out that this beautiful soul had died at the hands of her husband.  Irene's sister Helen has created a wonderful group on facebook.com in memory of her baby sister.  Through this site many of Irene's former elementary school classmates have used the group as a way to remember Irene and find some form of closure about her death.

I believe that is is time that the women and children who are suffering or have suffered due to domestic violence have a voice.  We must all realize that domestic violence is a huge problem in our society and that it has wider ramifications than we are aware.  We must invest in building more shelters so women and children have a place to go, longer prision terms for abusers and killers, and give voices to the people who live with this secret every day.  As a society we can and must do more to save more women and children from abusive partners.

Do something now!
We the undersigned which to petition you to focus on the human rights of women and children who are suffering at the hands of their partners.

On April 16, 2004 Mike Peteigney beat his wife in the head with a hammer as their two toddler daughters watched.  Mike Peteigney gave Irene 2-7 blows to the back of her head after Irene told him that she no longer loved him.

We petition you to act now in the effort to save more women and children from such brutality in the homes that they should feel the most security.

These woman and children suffer on many levels such as the lack of health, housing, education, and the freedom that their abusers take away from them.

First, we ask you to ensure that offenders of domestic violence are brought to justice and make sure that their sentencing are longer without any possibility of parole in such instances of related homicide.  This law will ensure that all abusers understand that society no longer accepts violence in the home.  Finally, we ask that more support and protection are given to victims of domestic violence nationwide.

We thank you for taking the time to read this petion in order for all of us to work together to save the lifes of all abused women such as my childhood friend Irene Peteigney Michniuk.
