Victims of Domestic Violence Need Day Care
The road to safety and security for victims of domestic violence is difficult enough with out road blocks being placed in the way. Recently, Monroe County has placed a roadblock in the way of domestic violence victims by cutting child care. Many domestic violence victims have children, often with a former abusive partner. They need free or low cost child care so that they can work and maintain economic security independent of the abusive partner. With out free or low cost child care, victims and their children will be forced to return to the abusive partner because they are unable to maintain employment. Many studies have shown the physical, psychological, emotional and long-term determent to children in abuse households.
I understand that the county has fiscal concerns but as a taxpayer I am strongly urging you to revise the daycare cuts. You must understand that for many people these cuts are not only devastating financially but dangerous as well.
