Help us in the fight! 

Some states are being petitioned by state vet boards to make it illegal for "trained" equine dentists to work in their states.  Equine dentists (IAED) are professionally trained and are totally dedicated to servicing the needs of equine dentistry care.  The Vet board in Texas is trying to make it illegal for equine dentists to perform their profession.  The vets want to pass the petition, resulting in having to take your horse to the vet to have routine "floating" procedures.  In vet school, the training is entirely optional. The students spend a quick two weeks practicing with horse dentistry. 
 
Then think about the Professional Equine Dentist. These Dentists are professionally trained and hold knowledagble information in the specific field of Horse Dentistry.

As an equine owner/breeder... I found out about this the hard way by taking my miniature mare and my young stallion to my vet for a routine floating.  My mare had a really poor experience with the vet's "required sedation" for the procedure.Then they didn't even know how to handle or even move her...the tools were too big for her mouth. She was very slow to come out of sedation and regain function. Once they tried to sedate my stallion, the inexperienced vet, missed and hit his carotid artery.  My daughter and I went crazy because of the lack of training this vet had. After my stallion seized, the vet did not know what to do. I yelled for the techs to go get a vet that was more experienced, and thanks to the Lord the other vet knew what to give my stallion and he came out of the seizure.

Now I take my horses to a certified, trained, equine dentist...which all they do are horse teeth.  He floats my horse's teeth WITHOUT any sedation, the horses aren't scared, and they have a calm and healthy experience with their tooth care as well as floating procedures. 

To put these trained professionals out of business just for the benefit of vets gaining money for a job they are not trained to do, would create a serious issue regarding our beloved horses. Think of this example, you do not have a vet trim your horses hooves. This profession remains specifically to the Ferrier. You should have the choice to take your horse to a Professional Equine Dentist.
