Your signature can make a difference to all pigs and farm animals in the United States. I am not demanding people stop eating meat. I am demanding for a change in the way these lovable creatures are treated.
Researchers have well established that pigs are intelligent, loving animals and can feel pain just like humans. Pig factory farming methods are barbaric and unnecessary. As a part of the money making scheme, pigs are bred in crowded, dark areas with little room to move. In these stressful environments, pigs tend to chew on their tails like humans and their fingernails. Therefore, pig farmers cut the tails off and break the piglets teeth without any pain killers while the piglets are screeching in pain. Chunks of the piglets ears are also removed without pain killers to identify the pigs. In this day and age, there are much more effective, harmless methods to identify animals than removing chunks of flesh with out any anesthesia. Males are also castrated without anesthesia. Young, sickly pigs are left to starve and die a slow, painful death. When it comes time to slaughtering, the pigs are meant to be stunned unconscious before being hung upside down with their throats cut open to bleed out. However, multiple times the stunning does not take full effects and the pigs are hanging and kicking and boiled alive. I do not understand how this is legal and how the inhumane treatment of animals continues to go on. Please sign and urge the US Department of Agriculture to add to the Animal Welfare Act and include a section for farm animal welfare such as these pigs and to actually enforce the act.
