Hold Waterbury Accountable for Starving Two Dogs and Keep Them Safe From Further Harm

Two dogs, a pit bull mix and a husky mix, were found emaciated and living in deplorable conditions in Waterbury, Connecticut, in the early hours of September 30.

Police say they responded to Marley Place around 2:20 a.m. after reports of animal neglect. Waterbury Animal Control took the dogs into care, and both are receiving treatment. A 23-year-old man, Isaiah Ortiz, was arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to animals. He is presumed innocent, and he is due to be arraigned on October 6.

This is the second arrest tied to the same address. Earlier this month, a 22-year-old woman was charged after a video of an abused dog went viral. Police also did a wellness check on August 28 and saw no signs of neglect, showing how quickly things can change for animals when no one is watching.

I'm Eric, and I run I Love Every Dog. Two more dogs from this one address should not have to be rescued in the middle of the night.

I am asking the Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Waterbury to do three things: pursue every charge the evidence supports in both cases connected to this address, ask the court to bar anyone convicted from owning or living with animals, and make sure the dogs stay in protective custody until their future is settled.

The dogs cannot speak for themselves. Please sign, and ask the State's Attorney's Office to be their voice on October 6.
