Pakistan, Take Action Against "Honor Killings"!

"Honor killings" by families who feel like their daughters have shamed them are common in Pakistan. In 2011, there were 2,341 (a 27% increase from 2010), although the exact number is probably higher, as this number is based on the murders covered in the media.

Most recent is the case of Raheela Sehto. Her family was furious at her marriage to Zulfiqar Sehto, and decided to tell the police she had been kidnapped. The couple, who had known each other since childhood and were deeply in love, went to the court to get protection and to remove the kidnapping charges.

Soon after the judges had come back to court after a break, Raheela's brother shot her in the left side of the head and then tried to shoot Zulfiqar, but was stopped by the police. Earlier, her uncle had tried to strangle her with a scarf.

Please tell the Pakistan government to take action against "honor killings" and get justice for victims!

Dear Pakistan Government,

Honor killings are a major problem in Pakistan. In 2011 alone there were 2,341 (although the number is probably much higher, as this was based on cases covered in the media). Recently, a woman was shot in court by her brother for marrying someone that wasn't pre-approved by her family.

Please take action against these "honor killings" by enforcing appropriate laws and get justice for victims.
