After the horrifying events over the weekend in Charlottesville, it is clear we cannot stand by as hate groups rally.
This Saturday, a "Free Speech" rally is planned for Boston. Although it's a different group from the one who planned the Charlottesville rally, it is likely to have a similar turn out and aim. One of the planned speakers said the following: "They're trying to destroy western civilization, and to do that, they're going after whites."
We need to ask Boston to do everything possible to show they do not support White Supremacy by deterring the event and keeping folks safe if it does go on.
So far, the group has not obtained a permit. Boston City Hall must commit not to issue a permit to this group. If they choose to assemble anyway, Boston must be prepared to keep things peaceful and protect the groups of counter protestors.
Boston Mayor Walsh is being wishy washy with his words on whether the city will allow the event. We must demand he strongly tells the group they are unwelcome.
A similar group met in Boston in May and wore helmets and armour in preparation for violence.
