OK Governor: Veto the Scariest Abortion Legislation Ever

The scariest piece of legislation regarding abortion in the U.S. is about to become law unless we speak up. The Oklahoma legislature passed a bill saying any doctor who provides an abortion for any reason besides to save the life of the mother will be charged with a felony, three years in prison and the loss of their medical license. If this bill is signed into law, women will lose their right to choose in Oklahoma completely. Even women who are victims of incest or rape would be forced to carry to term every single time. The only alternative these women would have is to travel out of state to seek the care they deserve. For many women, this is not possible because they can't afford the missed wages, travel costs or the potential loss of a job. Others still could not leave the state because they have to take care of parents or other children. This kind of burden on a woman seeking to end her pregnancy is far too high.

There is one single doctor in the Oklahoma legislature, and he is calling the bill "insane". Whereas many states have laws surrounding how late in a pregnancy a woman can abort, Oklahoma would be the first to criminalize the physician and ban abortion at any stage in a pregnancy. Physicians take an oath to protect the health of their patients, and asking them not to do so would set a frightening precedent for how legislators can affect medicine in this country.
