Six members of the Supreme Court are rapidly dismantling our democracy and our country.
- They are giving Trump unlimited power and "get out of jail free" cards.
- They are not even bothering to explain key decisions anymore.
- They are not even pretending to use the Constitution as their guide.
Right now, Senate Democrats are in the minority, and their power is limited. And yes, that sucks. But they need to do whatever they can to stop additional Trump appointees, if a vacancy arises. Use whatever bizarre, obscure Senate rule they can.
And once the adults are back in charge (hopefully soon), Democrats need to be willing to GO BIG to bring sanity back. Even if Republicans protesteth much.
Like expanding the size of the court to 11, or 15, or 23 -- whatever is necessary to get enough Justices on board to have them actually focus on "Justice" and not "Just Us."
Maybe term limits (partisanship aside, it's ghoulish to have the nation consitently waiting around for Justices to die). There are a whole host of steps that would not only restore the Court, but improve it.
Republicans will raise hell, and scream "Socialism!!!!" (because they have no idea what that is). But we've reached a point where we must go beyond "sternly worded letters" and make change for real. It's time to take big steps. And Democrats need to know that we'll be with them if they do.
