This Day in June and My Princess Boy are children's books that teach compassion and acceptance of all people, including gay and transsexual individuals. So why are some county residents trying to have them banned from the public library!
One resident complains that these two books hit children in the brain "before they have a chance to make a decision about it." The same could, of course, be said of their parents' hatred and intolerance. These books need to stay in the library because they teach progressive attitudes and because public libraries are commissioned with representing everyone in the community. Tell Hood County Commissioners to leave This day in June and My Princess Boy on the shelves!
Dear Hood County Commissioners:
We the undersigned are appalled that some residents of your county want to censor books that teach acceptance and celebrate diversity. We ask that you stand firm against this pressure, and keep in the library books that represent and are of interest to all of the community. Public libraries were not invented to represent the narrow political agenda of a few haters. Public libraries should be places where people go with an open mind, and leave with their minds even more open. Please do not remove This Day in June or My Princess Boy from library shelves.
