Neglected Dog Was 'Skin and Bones,' and Died Before Veterinarians Could Help

In Chatham, Illinois, a dog has died after being starved to death by its owner. A concerned civilian called authorities, explaining they were worried about possible animal abuse at a nearby home. When officials arrived, they found a dog who had been so badly neglected, it was on death's door.

The owner was not at home, but officials were able to rescue the adult dog. They found it locked inside a tiny area, which was covered in urine and feces. The dog appeared to only be "skin and bones."

They rushed the animal to emergency veterinary services, but unfortunately, the animal's body had already begun to shut down after such an extended period of starvation. Experts confirmed that the dog's owner clearly had neglected and possibly fully ignored the animal for a long period of time.

Veterinarians were only able to get as far as taking the dog's weight and measurements before the pet passed away inside their clinic.

The owner has been identified and charged with animal cruelty. We must make sure that this person is never allowed to hold a position of "care" or responsibility for animals again!
