C state legislators to amend their current bill to include protection for the opossum along with all other wildlife throughout the state. House Bill 574 provides protection from cruelty and harm for wildlife in North Carolina, currently excluding the opossum. Help us to change this!
Wildlife laws in North Carolina, statewide, passed a bill that protects all of its wildlife from harm and animal cruelty. However, the bill allows for the exclusion of the opossums from the wildlife laws. As a result, the existing laws that protect wildlife will NOT apply to the opossum.
This bill has already been approved by NC representatives and voted upon once in the NC Senate. Help us in our efforts to ask for an amendment to the current bill by signing and sharing this petition and include the opossum in the wildlife protection laws.
N. C. Legislators & State Representatives – In regards to your new and current house bill 574, we urge you to amend it and the existing wildlife laws to include the opossum. Current laws seem to exclude providing protection to the opossum from animal cruelty and harm. Ensure that the bill is amended to include protection of all wildlife, including the opossum.
