Engineering A Cooler Planet
Scientist are contemplating last ditch efforts to slow climate change.
1. VOLCANIC DUST: Using balloons, jet engines and artillery to put millions of tons of sulfates in the stratosphere.PROBLEM:Expensive, because you need tens of thousands of pounds per month to produce enough cooling, but has NO affect on CO2 and could cause drying of the Mediterranean and Midwest.
2. SOLAR UMBRELLA:PROBLEM:$4 trillion and has NO affect on CO2.
3. GERITOL EFFECT:Dump iron dust into the ocean. Every ton of iron dust aborbs 100,000 tons CO2.PROBLEM:Could change sea temps which could affect local species.
4. CARBON CAPTURE:Captures CO2 from major emission sources and discard them into salt formations, coal beds, depleted oil and gas reserves or the ocean. Can reduce CO2 emissions up to 90% per kilowatt hour.PROBLEM:Expensive, leakage risk to people and ecosystem, measurable change in oceans.
5. ARTIFICIAL TREES:Industrial size trees to filter 90,000 tons CO2 from the wind per year(6.6 lbs per sec per tree).PROBLEMS:Separation, transportation and disposal cost are high.Leakage to people and ecosystem.
I understand that we need to do something and fast, but don't you think they could come up with somthing that will help but not harm.
If you have any ideas please add them when you sign.
We the undersigned understand that something needs to be done and fast, but it seems that all of these choices will cause some kind of harm to the enviroment.Could you please try to come up with something that will help with CO2 emissions but not harm something else.Thank you for listening.
