Donald Trump was not at all pleased when Scotland refused to pander to him and went ahead with a wind farm project despite his cries that it would “ruin the view” from his unpopular new golf course.
In a fury, Trump went on to conduct a massive campaign against wind farms in Scotland, with little factual basis. Done right, wind farms provide jobs and clean energy, both of which are more far important than the opinions of a peeved American tycoon.
His interminable tantrum, for there’s no other way to describe it, has hit a new low. He took out full page adverts in Scottish newspapers to rant against windfarms. So far, so tasteless. However, this time he decided to use the Lockerbie air disaster, in which 270 people died, as a comparison in his twisted piece of misinformation.
Tell the media company concerned that publishing this grotesque and completely irrelevant use of a tragedy is just not acceptable.
We the undersigned ask that you refuse to publish any more of Donald Trump’s anti-wind farm advertisements. These are now going beyond tasteless misinformation into the completely inappropriate, especially with the use of the Lockerbie air disaster, which has nothing whatsoever to do with this issue.
Publishing such adverts does little more than make your newspapers look bad and offend anybody who lost a loved one in the disaster. Aside from being grotesque, they supply nothing but misinformation. If positioned appropriately, wind farms provide environmentally friendly jobs and energy, both of which are more far important than the opinions of a disgruntled American tycoon. The ASA has already banned one of his adverts on this basis and the latest is under consideration.
Donald Trump is free to carry on his campaign of peevishness. We ask that you do not encourage it.
