Title 42, the brutal pandemic-era Trump rule that allowed Homeland Security to immediately expel asylum seekers back to Mexico, is finally set to expire after having been used to deport 2.8 million people.
But the Department of Homeland Security has already passed a harsh new rule — Title 8 — that presupposes that anyone who hasn't tried to seek asylum in the countries they've passed through to get here are ineligible to enter the US and will face immediate deportation.

Once deported to Mexico, the migrants are at the mercy of criminal gangs and an overwhelmed state appartus none too pleased at having to take of them. Over 13,000 kidnappings, rapes, and other violent attacks against migrants have been recorded since Biden took office.
On the campaign trail, President Biden vowed to create a more fair and humane immigration system. It's time for us to hold him to that promise.
