Congress must pass HR 2376 Stem Cell Research Advancement Act

Congress must give legislative enforcement to the President’s order with legislation that allows federal funding for medical research performed on abandoned embryos from fertility clinics which would otherwise be medical waste, not saved lives. It is important to support this bill since:

·         it supports the NIH’s ability to continue to promote important scientific work that could provide benefits to millions of patients and their families.

·         federal support for stem-cell research in the U.S. vital in order to maintain the nation’s competitive edge. (Too much money is going to other countries with more supportive guidelines)

·         as a nation struggling with healthcare deficits, we need to fund activities that could increase healthcare benefits while potentially easing the burden of healthcare costs.

·         Stem cell research has the potential to save millions of Americans and help all the children born with serious birth defects and illnesses. .

It is for these reasons and more that the nation's leaders must be urged to provide supportive legislation that can advance scientific and medical research involving stem cells.

To Our Elected Representatives in the U.S. Legislature:

We are writing to ask you to support bill H R 2376, An Act to Advance Stem Cell Research. We believe that we are in need of a law that establishes federal funding for all stem cell research. In 2009 President Obama passed an Executive Order which eased many of the previous restraints on stem cell research. However, the future of such a law is uncertain and thus we call upon you to do your part in passing legislation through Congress, insuring that stem cell research maintains the federal support that is necessary for the advancement of this research in the United States.

There are currently over one hundred illnesses and injuries positioned to benefit from the vast application of stem cell therapies. This correlates to millions upon millions of individuals and families who have been hopeless in the face of devastating medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and spinal cord injury, but who now have reason to hope.
Therefore, we implore you to consider the gravity of this bill and the implications it has for countless individuals and the people who love them. There are no absolutes, but we live in amazing times and the United States should be at the forefront of this momentous endeavor.

Thank You,

Concerned Americans
