Right to a mortgage

My son and partner have been in private rental for 6 years + paying £800.00-£1.000.00 per month. They are deemed not mortgageable since he is self employed and she is a qualified nurse. Surely the record of the past 6 years should be considered a good credit rating. There must be thousands after young people in the same situation It is time for change
