Protect badgers- stop the cull

The UK government plans to cull badgers to "prevent bovine TB" next year.Scientific links are tenuous, and people are going to be allowed to shoot ANY badgers in some areas, without establishing that they HAVE TB.Vaccination programmes have been proposed .but,it seems ,not acted on.The badger is one of the U.K.'s last remaining truly wild creatures;it also is beneficial,in feeding on dung-beetles and other potential pests. This cull could diminish the population of an Europe-wide endangered species so much that none of these delightful creatures remain-while there must be better ways to manage bovine TB than this hastily set up cull. Please help to prevent this proposed cull while there is time.
We the undersigned are writing to ask you to reverse the proposal for culling badgers. The link between badgers and bovine TB is not clear enough to justify the destruction of this endangered native species. We understand that ,in some areas, people will be allowed to shoot at sight without establishing that a particular badger HAS TB.This could clearly lead to the extinction of our badgers-which do much good in the eco-structure,eg feeding on dung-beetles,and "pests" in general. It also would cause unnecessary suffering to individual animals. It is ironic that they are also good for tourism in some places, with popular "badger-watches".If they become extinct,we do not understand the  full impact that would have,on wild places here, and ultimately the wider world. There must be better ways to manage TB than this hastily set up cull. What has happened to the proposal for vaccination for example? Please change this decision before it is too late for these delightful creatures.
