Canadian seal slaughter

   Every year, the Canadian government allows sealers to beat and skin hundreds of thousands of seals, many whom are only weeks old. These babies have their skulld smashed in or are shot./ They are defenseless and connot escape as other pups around them are assaulted. Mother seals watch helplessly as their babies are bludgeoned to death just a few feet away from them. Eyewitnesses have documented the mothers' desperate cries and futile attempts to protect their babies.

   To avoid damaging the fur, sealers routinely hook the seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth and drag them across the ice while they are still conscious. Many of these gentle animals may not evenhave eaten thier first solid food or taken their first swim before they are slaughtered.
