Ban Moose Hunting

Scientists have been unable to find the cause of the dramatic moose population decline in regions of Canada and across the United States. They speculate the causes may be many- from global warming to parasites- in an attempt to explain why moose are dying at an unprecedented rate across North America.

Of the two moose populations in Minnesota, one population has dropped from 4000 to less than 100 since the 1990's. The other population has declined 25%.

Unregulated hunting may also play a role in moose mortality. In New Hampshire, moose were hunted out of existence during Colonial times; they returned to the state only in the 1970's.

While the cause of the death is still a mystery to science, we ask for a moratorium on moose hunting in the United States. While over-hunting and poaching may not be the only cause, it isn't helping moose populations. Hunters may take from the ecosytem the healthy moose that may be the only hope for moose recovery. Furthermore, please consider listing moose as a threatened species.
