Lee County, Florida Safe School Bus Stops

Lee County School Board is charged with creating safe school bus stops. On January 14, 2019 Alana Tamplin was killed as she walked her 9 year old sister to a hazardous bus stop created by the Lee County School Board in violation of the walking conditions detailed in Florida Statute 1006.23. On March 25, 2019 Layla Aiken was killed while at a bus stop on a corner in violation Florida Safe School check list requiring bus stops to be at least 50 feet from a corner. Both instances would not have occured if the rules and laws were followed by the Lee County School Board.

On March 27th, 2019 in correspondence number 2019-030045 The Lee County School board and the Florida Department of Education Office of Inspector general were noticed of the failures of the Lee County School Board.

The FLDOE forwarded the correspondence to division of safe schools and as of August 4, 2019 no action was taken.

On July 30, 2019 the school board approved the same hazardous conditions for school bus stops throughout the 2019-2020 school year.

We ask Governor DeSantis to assign a reciever to Lee County School Boards safe school bus stops program to protect the children in Lee County.
