Demand the South African Government Maintains Budgets to Stop the Poachers

The South African Government is planning large budget cuts that will reduce antipoaching operations at the country's game parks at a time when elephants, rhinos and leopards are being slaughtered by poachers in the thousands.

According to a report in businesslive.co.za, the operational budgets of state-run game reserves like KwaZulu-Natal are facing a 40% cut.

The report states: "The cuts were leading to frozen posts at game reserves‚ in rural areas already short of employment opportunities.

"Some game park officials said they are concerned that would not be able to fight poaching as even petrol for patrol cars would be rationed."

Loss of wildlife has a flow on effect on the tourism industry, which sustains the economy of South Africa, providing jobs for thousands who would not otherwise by able to find employment.
