On January 9th, writer and activist Debbie Hall published a thoroughly-researched expose on counterfeit Jews in the Times of Israel. (https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/wearing-jewface-the-far-lefts-new-tactic/) Documented within the article are 4 women who've either adopted or outright fabricated a Jewish identity in order to promote antisemitism. However, as 3 of the 4 women mentioned therein are women of obvious color, the article provoked significant outrage, mainly from friends and followers of one or more of the 4 women. As we speak, they are trying to have the article taken down.
This cannot be allowed to happen. As with other Indigenous peoples, impostors are a real and pertinent threat to our community. Yes, Jewish colorism exists. Black-Jews exist, and racism against black-Jews is very real. But this alone does not give antisemites of color the right to enter our community and weaponize their false identities against actual Jews. It is our duty to call them out, and to ensure that they may never do so.
