mandatory bereavement for family death

there should be a law stating that an employer must give employees bereavement time when there is a lost of a family member. A really good friend of mine just lost her sister called her company to leave work to say goodbye to her sister and they would not let her leave so she will miss saying goodbye to her sister and miss her funeral and thats not right. This was a wake up call for me its just not humanly right at all so im hoping that people in new mexico understand this petition and how important it is we all lose loved ones so please sign.Thank you
