The companies that make popular tech products use cobalt in their batteries sourced from exploited workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many work in dangerous conditions for long hours, sometimes entire days, often for no more than one dollar per day. Worse, at least 40,000 of these workers are children, some as young as seven.
