Allow Timmins moms to be with baby after c-section

I had many hopes of having a natural childbirth when my son was born in 2012; however, like many moms I had to have an emergency C-section. To my surprise after the C-section I had to wait 2 hours in the recovery room without my husband and baby. This is customary for our Timmins hospital, as there are policies in place at this time restricting baby to be with you in the recovery room. When I asked my doctor about this later, she told me they do not allow babies in the recovery room due to lack of training and funding, and of course there is a process to change policies at TDH.

As an expecting mother of yet another baby, this is worrisome to me, as I hoped to breastfeed and bond skin to skin with my baby immediately after childbirth. It is recommended that mothers breastfeed within the first hour of childbirth and there are numerous benefits of skin to skin bonding immediately after childbirth. Unfortunately, we are restricted of this right due to the regulations of the recovery room. It is also important to mention that almost all local hospitals in the surrounding areas allow baby to be with mother in the recovery room. Why not at Timmins District Hospital?
Please sign and raise awareness about this, so a change can commence. It is our right to be with our newborn after childbirth!
