Ban Slitting of Animal Throats & Drinking their Blood at Festival in Mexico

It is highly disturbing that people can find great pleasure at the cost of an animal’s life.  Activities like dog fighting, running of the bulls, cock and bull fighting are horrifically popular among spectators and makes one wonder how they can enjoy watching and encouraging such abuse of animals for fun.  Another such activities is drinking the blood of the dead animals that has been filmed in Mochitlan, Mexico.  Read more on this issue at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3706624/Gruesome-moment-Mexican-villagers-cut-bull-drink-blood-ALIVE-honour-patron-saint.html

Villagers in Mochitlan kill the bull, allegedly in honor of patron Saint Santa Ana and drink the animal’s blood.  The bull is first roped and then strung up for a while before dropping it back to the ground as shown in the gruesome footage.  The poor animal is actually still alive as its blood gushes out so people can drink it, with music in the background.  If that isn’t enough, locals continue to abuse the animal while it is bleeding to death.  As stated by PETA advocates, “Only the devil would be honored if, in his name, someone plunged a knife into a live bull's stomach and hacked off his ears, leaving him to die slowly in agony and fear.” The torture of these animals and these twisted rituals has got to stop.

The purpose of this petition is to urge the Mayor of Guerrero, Mexico to put an end to this horrific practice of slitting the animals’ throats and drinking their blood.  This form of “honor” or entertainment is clearly abusive and inhumane.  Please support this critical issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments regarding this horrific ritual.

Iguala Mayor Jose Luis Abarca of Guerrero, Mexico – I was horrified to learn that animals are allegedly tortured during the annual festival in Mochitlan to "honor" patron saint Santa Ana. The animals experience grave pain and discomfort which is inhumane and abuse.  These animals deserve much better, respectful treatment.  Unless these practices stop, no one will continue to visit your country.  Ban this cruel tradition!!
