Demand to let 16 and 17 year olds retrospectively vote in the EU Referendum

The decision to leave the European Union last night, the 23rd June 2016, was made based on the decisions of an electorate that did not include UK residents aged 16 and 17.

What with the vote coming in so remarkably close, it is vital that this demographic should be allowed their say - particularly as it is the younger generation that will have to bear the brunt of such a monumental decision for the longest time.

It is essential that those aged 16 and 17 are given a vote on the matter, even after this initial decision has been made, as it will provide the government with a clearer understanding of what this new demographic believes.

We are the most connected generation there has ever been - but our disempowerment in this most vital decision leaves us vulnerable to disengagement and disillusionment with the political process. The UK government has a responsibility to listen to all and to base their decisions about our future on the wishes of all it will affect.

Let 16 & 17 year olds vote and consider the outcome when planning the UK's future relationship with Europe.
