Our beloved Moorooka childcare centre, St Brendan's, is being forced to close within weeks - because the Moorooka Salisbury Catholic Parish will only offer it a month-to-month lease.
This is a 30-year-old, beautifully run centre with long-serving educators and deep roots in our community. It cannot operate - and cannot keep its staff or reassure its families - on a month's notice.
Brisbane Catholic Education has already given St Brendan's Primary School families until the end of Term 4, 2026, to transition. We're asking the Parish to show the same care to the daycare centre: atn the very least, to extend the lease to the end of 2026 (if not longer), so families can find alternative care, and staff can find new jobs, without being thrown into crisis with weeks' notice.
Moorooka is already short on childcare places. Losing this centre - and losing it abruptly - hurts children, families, and workers who deserve far better than a month's warning.
