Police body camera's give us the impression that they enhance our civil rights through transparency. However looking at the larger issue of civil right to privacy and liberty as American citizens which will be compromised with body cameras and facial recognition products and software.
Facial recognition can be used to harass individuals of any race or background and would be a great burden on any Artist, political and religious group or ethnic minorites ability to operate without discrimination and prejudice. Facial recognition can also discriminate against religious freedom, race, sexual orientation, logos, political affiliation, and economic status.
We are not prepared for our leaders to be benign dictators until we have solid ethical guidelines governing the technologies we are implementing. And even when that day occurs we may avoid using AI as there should be more separation between police and military to ensure our liberty and protections granted in writing by the US Constitution.
By banning these two technologies in our local towns we are taking a huge step towards securing a better future with a higher possibility that democracy can be obtained.
