Hope all is well.
As students in Kinesiology we would like to inform you of an unjust manner of lecturing and testing that has occurred in KINE 4020: Human Nutrition. During the strike, the professor of the course, Dr. Rolando Ceddia, continued to carry out lectures without posting all lecture recordings online. Moreover, Dr. Ceddia posted an online announcement on March 13th that he will conduct a midterm on March 16th. This only gives the students of KINE 4020 a short 3 days to study and prepare for a midterm in which its contents were not properly taught. On this online announcement the professor failed to mention or offer any fair accomodation to those who chose to not cross the picket line. After receiving the advice of different York officials and administrators we were informed that according to York University Senate Policy 2.2 students do not have to cross the picket line to attend lectures, which includes online lectures and cannot be penalized for not writing midterms/exams during the strike. Furthermore, a fair accommodation must be provided for students after the strike. Fair accomodations do not include transferring the weight of the midterm to the final, recording lectures or anything that is deemed by us, the students, as unfair according to senate policy 2.2. For example, watching a recorded lecture is still considered as crossing the picket line and thus, students cannot be tested on the material in these lectures unless they are accommodated. It is important to know that accomodations can only happen after the strike has ended and not while the strike is carried out according to senate policy 2.2.
We hope that a fair accommodation will be reached in a timely fashion.
