I heard a few bad things about the well-known chocolate and other goods factory Nestle. However there is a lot more involved in their production:
· Baby Killers-Nestle persuades mothers in the developing world to put their babies on Nestle instant formula. This makes the baby 25 times more likely to die of diarrhoea and 4 times more likely of pneumonia. It makes the baby prone to infections, other diseases and undeveloped brains.
· Child Slaves-Nestle buys cocoa from companies that use child slaves, the children are made to work 80-100 hours a week and are frequently beaten.
· Orangutan Destroyers-Nestle buys palm oil from companies that cut down thousands of miles of rainforest killing all the animal inside, including the endangered orang-utans.
· Stealing Clean Water-Nestle digs deep wells underneath poor, small villages in the developing world to fill their branded water bottles and leaves the people with filthy remains.
· Robbers-Nestle demanded millions of dollars from Ethiopia for compensation when the country was in the middle of a famine.
· Lying-Nestle put an earlier ‘produced date’ on their products so in fact they were out of date before it said, they also lied about the place they were produced.
They have NO fair-trade!
So take the pledge not spend your innocent to the horrors of Nestle!
