Support Democracy in Azerbaijan/Free all political prisoners

Dear Leaders,

In anticipation of the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Poland we would like to draw your attention to the case of imprisoned youth activists and politicians in Azerbaijan. 

Currently youth activists Jabbar Savalanly (member of Popular Front of Azerbaijan party, fake drug possession charges), Bakhtiyar Hajiyev (Harvard alumni, former parliamentary candidate, alleged of evasion of military service) and Elnur Israfilov (independent, alleged organization and participation in actions infringing public order ) are in prison being sentenced to 2 years and half; 2 years; 2 years and half respectively. Along with them members of Musavat Party Tural Abbasli, Ahad Mammadli, Rufat Hajibayli and Ulvi Guliyev and member of Popular Front Elnur Majidli, who were arrested as a consequence of 2 April demonstration of the Public Chamber (opposition union of Azerbaijan), are currently kept in remand expecting unlawful decision to take place. 
Human rights activist and member of the Public Chamber Vidadi Isgandarli (alleged interference to electoral process was sentenced to 3 years, while 2 April prisoners Elshan Hasanov (member of Musavat, alleged), Arif Alishly (member of Popular Front, alleged organization and participation in actions infringing public order), Zulfugar Eyvazly (member of Popular Front, alleged organization and participation in actions infringing public order) Babek Hasanov (member of Popular Front, alleged organization and participation in actions infringing public order; resistance or violence against the representative of authorities), Sahib Karimov (member of Popular Front, alleged organization and participation in actions infringing public order; resistance or violence against the representative of authorities) Shahin Hasanli (member of Popular Front, alleged illegal possession of arms) were sentenced to 2 years; 3 years; 1 year 6 months; 1 year 6 months; 2 years; 2 years respectively. Along with them Arif Hajili from Musavat, Mahammad Majidli from Popular Front, who were arrested as a consequence of 2 April demonstration of the Public Chamber, are currently kept in remand expecting unlawful decision to take place. 

Dear Leaders,

We urge you to raise the issue of Azerbaijani political prisoners publicly and at the meeting with the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the summit. We need the support of the European Institutions and the international community in protection of persons, who were arrested solely for exercise of their constitutional rights.
