Environmental groups are calling on the government to outlaw the use of microbeads in cosmetics sold in Australia, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

The call-out comes after the USA banned the use of microbeads after when studies revealed they were detrimental to fish and other marine creatures.

The report states: "Earlier this year, scientists found 60-100 particles of plastic micro debris in 100 millilitres of sediment in Middle Harbour – among the highest levels recorded in the world.

"Microbeads are flushed through waterways and are then ingested by marine life. The beads are considered a threat to fish, and some studies suggest they even move up the food chain to humans."

The results are in - micrbeads are bad news for the planet! Will you join me in urging the Australian Government to ban the use of microbeads in all cosmetics and to recall any products that are still on sale that contain them?
