India's Supreme Court Rejected a Plan to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

In a tragic blow to LGBTQ rights, the highest court in India just declined to legalize same-sex marriage. This ruling could have been a landmark victory for so many couples in the country who have been systematically denied the right to love their partners and reap the many personal and financial benefits of marriage.

But instead, the Supreme Court of India stood on the wrong side of history.

We cannot let this ruling stand! Sign now to tell the highest court in India: reconsider this tragic ruling! Protect LGBTQ+ rights!

Marriage is important symbolically, but also practically, and has huge impacts on health and legal rights.

Experts agree: making same-sex marriage legal is not just an issue of human rights, but one of public health. When Sweden and Denmark legalized same-sex marriage, both countries saw suicide rates fall significantly. All people deserve to feel safe and supported in their desire to marry whoever they love - regardless of gender.

Additionally, legalizing same-sex marriage helps societies fight discrimination. One way it does this is by affording queer couples the same rights and privileges as opposite-sex couples. These include the right to visit spouses in hospitals, being considered next-of-kin, opening joint bank accounts, setting up inheritance, and even parental rights.

Refusing to legalize same-sex marriage is just bigotry, plain and simple.

The Supreme Court of India must stand up for all Indian citizens and protect their right to love and marry. Sign the petition now if you agree!
