Hello friends & family! Today I was out for a walk in the William Street neighbourhood and I came across a sign posted near Stacy's trail. If you live in Carleton Place you will know that this is very historic part of town. There is construction happening in and around the old mills and they plan to cut this big, beautiful 120+ year old tree down to make room for a traffic circle/sidewalk. As a nature lover and someone who has a huge appreciate for history I strongly disagree with this decision. I played in this area as a child and would hate to see such a thing happen. I'm sure there are ways around it. The sign states that the hackberry tree is the official tree of Carleton Place. I took a moment to place my hands on the tree, and I began to feel sorry for it. It has been there for many years and should be left alone. I also spoke with a lovely woman who was out walking and she agreed.
