Party. But party smart!

On April 7th, 2019 a young man was killed after a out of control block party. The argument had been caused as a direct result of the intense atmosphere and nature of this moving party. In Union County and counties like it there are not many rules and guidelines for tings such as block parties because it is not viewed as a big issue but there are direct correlations in these types of out of control parties and violent actions.

In order to change this growing trend of pain and fear and to prevent further damage we can begin to take a few steps to encourage smart ways to go about hosting block parties. After researching many tactics to do this I have discovered that the way to keep our First Amendment rights safe from obstruction we as the City of Worthington Springs adopt a rules and regulations guide similar to that of the Village of Silverton in Ohio.

1. Underage drinking is strictly prohibited by law and by this ordinance.
2. If a resident of the street wants to leave or return home, they must not be hindered. It will be the permit holder’s responsibility for the safety of the attendees and the safe passage of residents.
3. Access must be provided for fire apparatus and/or other emergency vehicles in case they are needed.
4. Immediately after the party is over, the permit holder(s) must ensure that the entire area in which the party was held is free of litter, garbage and other party items. The area must be returned to its original state.
5. Fire hydrants will not be blocked.
6. Only one permit will be issued per year on a block.
7. The block party must end by 1:00 a.m.
8. It is understood that the permit holder(s) will erect suitable barricades to block the street and will remove them at the conclusion of the event.
9. If these guidelines are not followed the permit holder is responsible for the $600 fine due to the city.
