Library and Archives Canada preserves Canadian Heritage and makes it accessible to the public. "This heritage includes publications, archival records, sound and audio-visual materials, photographs, artworks, and electronic documents." (LAC 2013) Harper's 2012 Budget Cuts are not allowing the LAC to fulfill their purpose. Valuable free online resources for everyone are being archived every day on the LAC website and it will continue to limit until non-existent our access to our Canadian Heritage as well as valuable online resources including:
Urge the Harper Government to reduce budget cuts at the LAC to allow vital functions and services to continue!
Dear Prime Minister Harper,
Library Archives Canada is vital to preserve our Canadian Heritage as well as providing invaluable resources to everyone. Services and resources of LAC are used by a large and diverse group including the general public, librarians, historians, professional writers, students, genealogists, Aboriginal communities, and researchers. Due to the budget cuts Library and Archives Canada has implemented changes that are opposing to their objective; including reduced public access, decentralization of the national collection, elimination of specialist positions, and reduced acquisitions. We hope that you will consider the following changes to bring the LAC back to its former glory:
-Reduction of budget cuts to allow vital functions to continue
-Restoration of public services and online resources
