ATTN: Governors of dog racing states
Florida Governor Rick Scott
West Virginia Governor James Conley Justice
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds
Texas Governor Greg Abbott
I am writing to ask you to help save dogs by taking a stand against the criminal corruption of racing. According to state records, gentle greyhounds are testing positive for drugs, even cocaine, at racetracks all across the county.
There have been 847 drug positives over the past decade, including 71 greyhound cocaine positives. Class 1 positives – the most serious – spiked in 2017. Drug paraphernalia, including syringes and injectable vials, are frequently found in racing kennels. But instead of cleaning up their act, disreputable kennel operators and greyhound owners have simply been engaging lawyers to dismantle state rules against drugging dogs!
It is time for this terrible "sport" to end once and for all. It is well known that racing dogs break their legs and sometimes die on the track. When not racing, they are kept confined in small cages for long hours each day and fed a diet based on raw diseased meat. If that weren't bad enough, now we know that drug use is rampant in this terrible industry.
Please help bring this cruelty to an end in your state and give greyhounds the second chance they deserve. The activity is already illegal in forty other states and it is time for it to end everywhere.
