Respect Transgender Veterans' Right to Transition

When Kimberly Acoff was in the Army, she never revealed that she was transgender. Even though serving freed her of a lot of shame, the secrecy was excruciating.

"I was not afforded the privilege to proudly serve as my authentic self," she told Rolling Stone. "This robbed me of [my] humanity."

Sign now to ask the Department of Veterans Affairs to give transgender vets access to the health care they deserve.

Since 1999, transgender veterans have been banned from getting V.A. benefits to help with gender confirmation surgery and other transition-related health care. Now, the department is thinking about reversing that ban. It's accepting public comments now until Sept. 7.

Trans people are twice as likely as cisgender folks to serve in the military, meaning they play a vital role in our national security. Add your voice asking the V.A. to reverse its ban on providing transition-related health care to transgender troops.
