Wolves have been unfairly demonized for a long time, despite the fact that they're absolutely critical to their ecosystems. In fact, they were
nearly hunted to extinction in the U.S. in the early to mid 1990s. Luckily, gray wolves in the U.S. were finally granted
federal protections once they became listed as an endangered species in 1973.But Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives just passed a bill that
would reverse 52 years worth of progress by blocking gray wolves from receiving protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

They help to ensure proper balance in food chains, promote biodiversity, and even protect the environment and flora and fauna in the process. They're considered a "keystone species" - without them, the whole delicate fabric of ecosystems begins to fall apart.
With federal protections, their populations have been able to start rebuilding after their near-decimation last century. But even with these protections, gray wolves are still endangered in the U.S.
And without federal protection? It would be open season for hunters and farmers to go after these vulnerable animals - meaning they'd be driven right towards the precipice of extinction yet again.
The U.S. House of Representatives' bill wouldn't just strip away all of these important ESA protections.
It would also block courts from conducting judicial reviews! That means conservation groups would not be allowed to challenge the government's anti-wolf actions in court, and judges wouldn't be allowed to weigh in on its validity or legality.
Now that the House has already passed this bill, it is one-third of the way to becoming law in the U.S. If the Senate votes to approve this bill and Trump signs it, that would spell doom for these endangered animals. Sign the petition to prevent this from happening! The Senate must vote "No"!
