Petition to Close Down World's Cruellest Zoo

Indonesia's Surabaya Zoo has been branded the world's worst zoo due to its appaling treatment of animals, and Richard Shears from the UK's Daily Mail newspaper found that this reputation is entirely justified. This zoo contains shackled elephants, malnourished and emaciated camels, and 150 pelicans packed into one cage, with the death toll of these helpless animals rising everyday.

According to a former keeper of Surabaya Zoo, more than 50 animals have died in the past three months. One giraffe died last year with 20 kg of plastic bags in its stomach, and in another case, a Sumatran tiger's digestive tract rotted away after it was allegedly fed formaldehyde-laced meat on a routine basis.

Surabaya Zoo’s shameful catalogue of deaths from starvation, mistreatment and other unnatural causes will continue if something is not done urgently. The condition of these animals is shocking and my heart cries for these beautiful creatures who are subject to such shameful and inexcusable treatment. Please sign this petition to close down this zoo and bring an end to the deplorable treatment of these innocent animals.
