Wildfires are burning across Canada, in the country's worst-ever start to wildfire season. Thousands of people are being evacuated from their homes, but not much consideration is being given to the animals left behind.
In fact, Lisa Parsons, the owner of a doggy daycare in Nova Scotia, tried to evacuate 18 dogs from her facility, but was told, "If they're humans, we have buses. If they're dogs, it is what it is."

Thankfully, Parsons was able to rescue the dogs, but she was forced to take matters into her own hands, literally running through roadblocks and thick bushes, putting her own safety at risk, to save these defenseless animals.
This incident clearly illustrates the need for better, more encompassing evacuation protocols that fully consider the welfare of all beings involved, including our animal companions.
